As everyone knows.. at least all the people who have read my blog or know me.. I love holidays! It doesn't matter if it's Christmas, the 4th of July, or St. Patricks Day! I love them all. Obviously my favorite is Halloween.. but I definitely love all holidays! I think maybe it's because I have an excuse to bake! or maybe it's because of "traditions" or new traditions I want to start with my little family.. or maybe it's because usually you spend holidays with family! & I love spending time with family!
I love Easter because it's a time we remember Christ & celebrate his resurrection! His resurrection was the climax of His atoning sacrifice where he overcame death & sin for all of us! That is why he is our Savior, our Redeemer. & I know that my Redeemer lives! & loves me! I'm glad we have a day where we celebrate His resurrection! He saved us all! It really bugs me that everyone gets so wrapped up in bunnies.. & eggs.. & chocolate (Yes I love Easter chocolate/candies.. who doesn't?) & all of the other things you think of when someone says "Easter". I don't think I really understood what Easter was about when I was a little girl. All I could think about was.. THE EASTER BUNNY!! or what I was going to get in my Easter basket... or how many Eggs I was going to find. & although I cannot wait to create/put together Easter baskets for my children.. I don't want them to think that is what Easter is about. I want to really teach them about our Savior Jesus Christ & let them know how he atoned for our sins that man might live again! I want them to be excited about Easter because of their brother Jesus Christ.. not because some stupid bunny that brings eggs for them!
I know that the Easter bunny is a "symbol" of Christlike behavior.. like Santa is during Christmas. (you know 'Tis the season of giving). But just like I don't want my kids to think of Christmas as "I get gifts & we sing about Jesus & blah blah blah" I don't want my kids thinking the same thing about Easter. I want them to know the meaning. I know I sound like I take the fun out of everything to some people.. But shouldn't we know why we celebrate certain things?? It would be like not knowing why we celebrate the 4th of July.. wouldn't it? How could you not know something so important? Yeah my point exactly! How could you not know the meaning of Easter.. or Christmas?? & those are the most important things ever! The birth of our Savior.. & the resurrection of our Savior!
So since the symbol of the Easter bunny is just like the symbol of Santa.. Giving.. I want them to give instead of want want want! I just want to be a good mom. I want to teach them what is right.. & I want them to know about their Savior. & when they think of Easter they'll remember to think of Christ. Obviously I'm not going to deprive them of egg hunts.. or dying Easter eggs.. or meeting the Easter bunny.. or getting an Easter basket. Like I said I cannot wait to make my children Easter baskets & what not, I just really want them to know the meaning of Easter!
Here is my favorite church hymn, I thought it was fitting for today:
"I Know That My Redeemer Lives"
I Love Easter and I know it shouldn't be this way, but I always feel refreshed when it's Christmas or Easter because I really start thinking about our Savior. I want to try & be a better person & be more Christlike. My Goal is: Instead of only remembering or really thinking about what my Savior did for me on Christmas or Easter.. I'm going to try & remember & think about him more often so that I can feel "refreshed" every day of the year instead of only 2 times out of the year.
I love my Savior Jesus Christ & I'm grateful for the sacrifice he made for me. I'm grateful for the atonement & the fact that I can be forgivin for my sins. I am so happy that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! It has been such a blessing in my life. It has made me the person I am today & I'm grateful for the prophet Joseph Smith, who I believe with every fiber of my being, was & is a true prophet of God (just like President Thomas S. Monson). I'm grateful that he restored the church & translated the Book of Mormon. I know without a doubt that it is true! I'm grateful for the beautiful temples we have on this earth so I can attend them & make sacred covenants with my Heavenly Father so I can return to live with him again. I'm grateful for the power of the priesthood! & I'm so happy that families can be together forever! I'm grateful that I get to spend Eternity with my best friend Dee! I love this church & I'm so happy I get to be a member, it surely makes me a better, happier, more loving, person.. without it I don't know where I would be!
Today we went to church for the first time since Elsie was born.. We haven't gone because I'm paranoid.. that someone might touch her or get her sick & so on.. I was a little hesitant about bringing her today, but it actually went really well!! Nobody tried to touch her. But I could have been sending of the vibe of "Don't you dare touch her or come any closer.." or maybe people are listening to common sense now-a-days.. ha! who knows?
After church I made delicious carrot cake (I think I'm going to make carrot cake every Easter! It's so yummy!) Then my sister Marissah came over & we ate dinner & watched a movie. I made Fried Chicken & Dee made his "Famous" mashed potatoes. It was a delicious meal (If I do say so myself). Overall it was a really good Easter.
& as a side note.. I have the best husband ever.. a week ago Dee came home from work & told me to get ready (he had a surprise for me). so I got ready & I sorta didn't want to because you know how you get when you stay home ALLLLLL the time.. & you rarely see the sunlight.. you kind of feel like my life is boring. But I got ready anyway, & I am so glad I did. Dee surprised me with a spa pedicure!! It was amazing! He loves me! (:
