Elsie Updates: #11

Updates:
Elsie knows that the sign for milk is just for milk now.. well for a week. Now she is back to doing it for everything.
She tries to suck on her finger while she is nursing.
She says "no"
She loves watching Baby Einstein
When Elsie is using the coffee table or anything for that matter.. to hold onto to support her she walks backwards.
Elsie knows to wave when somebody says "bye-bye" now.
She tries to get around by scooting on her knees.. instead of walking.
She took 4 steps & has been showing interest in walking ever since. (Jan. 5)
Elsie loves being in her Jenny Jumper.
She shakes her head really fast.. I think she realizes it makes her dizzy & she thinks that is cool or something?
She loves that she gets to eat what mama & daddy are eating for dinner.
Elsie loves "green" smoothies.
She has taken more than 6 steps at a time now (Jan. 11)
Elsie is officially walking (Jan. 15) but still prefers to scoot on her knees or crawl.
She is taking after her daddy.. she does not like tomatoes or avocado at all.
She plays games in the tub.. she throws her toys out of her baby tub & then after they're all out she puts them back into her tub one by one.
She slaps her head intentionally.
Elsie likes to laugh.
Does not sleep through the night. She is back to (on a good night) waking up only 2 maybe 3 times.
She wipes her hands with baby wipes.
She is in size 12m clothing now.
Still in size 3 diapers
She weighs: 21.6 lbs
& she is a little over 29 inches long now.

It's been a few weeks since I last wrote.. oops. Elsie is still not walking on her own.She has taken 4 steps at the most. She is getting really good at it. I guess this is the only thing she wants to master. I bet one day she will just start walking everywhere. It's kind of like when she learned to crawl.. she army crawled everywhere. She knew how to crawl the "normal" way but chose to crawl army style. I think because she could get around faster that way. That is way she chooses to crawl over walking because she knows she can get where she is going faster, by crawling.
She has been repeating words that we say. Like "duck" we sound out the word for her & she repeats. "du du du du du" that means duck.. & she says "nah" which means no.. guess we say no too often /: & she barks like a doggie. "wha wha" if you say "What does the dog say Elsie? woof woof" she copies. We swear that she copies other words that we say.. they just don't really sound exactly like the word. She says "mom" all the time now & "da da da" all the time as well.
Recently Elsie caught a cold.. & obviously we've been wiping her nose.. so the other day Elsie got a hold of a tissue & proceeded to wipe mine & Dee's noses. haha it was so sweet. She loves when I'm dressing her & say "where is Baby Elsie" when I am putting her shirt over her head then I kiss her & she laughs. Then I say "Where is your hand" & I pull her arm & hand through the sleeve & kiss her hands. & then she puts her hands to my face & holds them there until I kiss them again. I love it! (you have to get creative when your baby HATES.. & I mean hates getting dressed).

Also we just bought her a high chair so we have been sitting down for dinner as a family. Most the time her food ends up on the floor, smeared on the tray, in her lap, & in her hair. But I want her to learn how to feed herself since she is so independent. Yes sometimes I go a little crazy because I am such a perfectionist & hate messes. But seeing her sweet smile on her face knowing that she is just like mama & daddy.. makes it worth it!

Last night Elsie & I played a game of peek-a-boo. I was sitting on the floor with my knees up & resting my arms criss-cross on my knees & she would peek her head under my arms & smile. Then I would look up after she moved her head & we would laugh. I absolutely LOVE playing games with my baby. She is so sweet. I hope this last forever.. Where she actually wants to be around me. Even when she is a teenager..

It is crazy how big Elsie is getting. How she can think for herself.. how she can (almost) walk.. how she can use the milk sign to communicate with us. etc. There is so much she has learned & continues to learn!! I cannot believe Elsie has 1.5 months until she will turn 1!! The other day we put her in her Jenny Jumper... something we haven't done for probably a few months. & she LOVED it. she could walk around.. she could jump & turn around in circles.. daddy pushed her like she was in a swing & she was having so much fun!! Ever since we did that she has had more interest in walking. She has taken 8 steps now. That is the most she has ever done!! & I bet she will be walking for good in no time. So crazy!
Also whenever we put her in her walker she will walk all over the place in that as well. I think both of those have caused her to have more interest in walking. Whenever she is in her walker she acts like she is driving.. when she is backing up she looks over her shoulder & proceeds to back up. Or she does 3 point turns. It's kind of funny because the walker has a steering wheel toy on the front so it really does seem like she is driving.

Elsie is going to be one in basically 1 month! So crazy! I need to start planning what kind of cake I am going to make her.. & how I am going to decorate it! I want it to be perfect! (: Also I need to start coming up with ideas for her 1 year old pictures! I was thinking lots of pink! I have the perfect headband she is going to wear! My Aunt gave it to me & I am in love with it! It's pink with pink feathers. So stinkin' cute!
Anyway last night Dee & I went on a date so we dropped Elsie off at my sister Megan & brother-in-law Justin's house. When we came to pick her up she was playing with a doll. She loved it! We were thinking of getting her one for her birthday (& maybe we still will) but decided that we had better go get her one ASAP because of the interest she is showing in them. She was so sweet. She was holding it like a baby & touching it's eyes & mouth & looking at me in wonder. It seriously was the cutest thing EVER! Little girls are so sweet.

Elsie just got over being sick.. AGAIN. It seems like she is always getting sick. I absolutely hate the winter for this very reason. It seems like during these cold month a lot of sickness goes around. Not fun at all! Elsie probably had a couple different colds during December.. she had a cold the beginning of January.. & just when she was sickness free for a good 4 or 5 days she got sick again. This time I am thinking it was the flu. Boy oh boy was that fun...

Saturday morning Elsie woke up totally fine. We made smoothies & then Dee came home from the gym & I gave Elsie to him. After probably 5 minutes she rested her head on Dee & started to not look normal. I took her back from Dee & she kind of felt warm. (Elsie is ALWAYS warm.. so the best way for us to decide if she has a fever is to take her temperature/ see if she is acting different). So I decided to take her temp. it was only 99 at this point.. not quite a fever.. but not quite a normal temp. So I nursed her & she fell asleep for 2 hours. When she woke up again she nursed & went back to sleep for another hour. After she woke up from that nap she was burning up. Her temp the rest of the day was around 101-102. She just cuddled with mommy & laid around while mommy rubbed her back. It is so so so sad to see a sick baby. She looked like death. The only thing good about her being sick was the cuddle part.. I never get cuddles unless she is not feeling well. I love cuddles from my baby! At first I was thinking "yay she is finally teething for real!" But then when I was picking her up from her third nap she puked all over me & all over herself & all over the bathroom floor. & I realized that she was definitely sick with the flu or something.

I put her in her baby bath while I showered & let her play in the warm water. Her fever went down to 99.9 for about 10 minutes & then she was back to her temp of 101-102. Then she threw up 2 more times. She threw up a total of 3 times within 3 hours. I felt so bad for her. Then that night was horrible. She would not go to bed. She spent a good 2 hours just screaming. We had no idea what to do. She didn't want to eat (& I don't blame her.. she was nursing all day long.. literally!!) We already gave her Tylenol.. so we gave her teething tablets & Dee rocked her. Finally she calmed down. We were so relieved! She got up 4-5 times Saturday night. She didn't feel well on Sunday either so we skipped church. Her temp wasn't as high. It mainly stayed at 99 but got up to 100 at one point.

On Sunday Elsie started banging her head intentionally. It kind of freaked us out. Me being the way I am.. I researched it. I found out that babies do that for a couple different reasons.. 1. they need attention 2. They have pain & hitting themselves distracts themselves from the other pain. or 3. They have developmental problems: such as autism. I didn't (& dont) think she has autism but I kind of freaked out for a moment or two wondering how life would be if Elsie did have a "developmental problem". Anyway it's probably because of school. Dee & I have been reading text books, doing homework, & such so she probably has realized that things have changed & she needs more attention. Or she is teething (I cannot believe that she is teething until she gets a tooth in.. since she was 4 months old we thought she was teething.. but no teeth came in).  & is trying to distract herself from the pain?

Well Elsie started feeling better today. She didn't have a fever at all on Monday.. but she was the biggest crank in the world! I'm so glad she is feeling better.. that sickness was no fun!
Monday, January 26, 2015:
Elsie will be 1 in exactly 1 month! NO!! I am not ready for this. I feel like she was just born. Now she is well on her way to being a toddler.. When they start walking.. that is when they consider them toddlers right?

So Elsie has had a rough month. If it's not one sickness.. it's the next. Or teething! Elsie is finally getting her two bottom teeth in. We can see one of them!! Wahoo! You don't know how excited I am to finally see a little white speck. Like I said.. we thought Elsie was teething since she was 4 months old. She had all the signs.. but never any teeth to show for it. ): Now she does. I hope we are even more surprised & she gets 4 teeth in all at once.. because this last week has NOT been fun.

That's all for now!
