Elsie Updates: #10

Updates:
She uses the sign for milk for everything. I.e. if she wants a toy or food or anything really.
Elsie stands on her own now. We think she will be walking by Christmas
Elsie loves books.
She dances to music. (I think she is going to be a dancer).
She is okay with sleeping on her back now..
She makes everything a drum. She loves hitting her hands on something & hearing different sounds.
Elsie likes to turn the light switches on & off now. She looks at the light blub while she does it.
She took her first step (Dec. 11)
She crawls with her legs straight with her bum in the air. it is hilarious!
She is VERY independent. She throws a fit if we interfere with something she wants to do.
Elsie is sensitive. If you talk to her in a firm voice.. she breaks out in a frown & starts crying.
When she is somewhere new.. she is a perfect angel. Especially if there are new toys involved.
She loves to play.
She loves the Christmas tree.
Elsie likes to climb under things. Sometimes she figures out how to get herself out.. but most the time mama or daddy has to come rescue her.
Elsie discovered her private area.. & as soon as her diaper is open she reaches down there... as you can imagine.. it is not very fun when she has a poopy diaper. -_-
Her facial expressions are priceless.
When she sees something interesting or new to her, she points at it & looks at either daddy or mama & raises her eyebrows & puckers her lips or opens her mouth really wide like she just discovered gold. It's so cute!
Elsie loves pickles; peach yogurt; strawberry yogurt; black beans; olives; chicken; bread; rice, bean, & cheese burritos; pumpkin, squash, & sweet potatoes combined; `
She discovered mama's belly button. & is very intrigued by it.
She loves to play with her ball.
Elsie loves to put things in mama & daddy's mouths.
She gets on her knees & flaps her arms straight into the air & scoots forward whenever she is excited.
She weighs: 21lbs & 6oz
& she is 29 inches long now.

I have been slacking at writing lately.. maybe it's because I've been reading a lot & have not had the chance to jot anything down. I'm even slacking at updating Elsie's "updates". She has probably done loads of new things & I couldn't tell you what they were or are because I forgot to write it down after she did it. Oh well.. can't cry over spilled milk. Anyway I just cannot believe how much Elsie has grown!! She is well on her way to walking. She is all but ready. She can stand up on her own (quite well I might add) go from standing in the middle of the room (with nothing to support her) & drop to the floor perfectly all on her own.

Sorry I forgot to that I had to turn my homework in a couple nights ago & totally forgot to finish writing. So I will start where I left off..

We can tell that when she is in the standing position, she will think about taking steps.. but then gets scared or something & ends up dropping to her knees & starts crawling instead. So she is very very close. She will walk around if we hold her hands.. & she will stand, hold onto something that can move, & will push it around while walking. She is getting there. & my guess is she will be taking steps by the end of December. No doubt.

On Saturday Elsie finally realized she could "communicate" with us. We were over at my Aunt Susan & Uncle Corey's house & my sister Megan was eating a treat & Elsie pointed up at it & started doing the sign for milk in sign language. (we've been trying to teach her milk, more, please, finished, thank you, food, & a few more signs in ASL). So you can imagine how happy, proud, & excited I felt. Not to mention how accomplished I felt either! I mean she used to do milk in sign language but I think she didn't totally understand it & it was her version of milk.... not the actual sign & she did please in sign language once as well. But now that she knows milk she does it for EVERYTHING. I think she thinks it means "I want" Like when she wants to be picked up she starts doing the sign (she always puts her hand out to what she wants while doing the sign), or when she wants a toy, or milk, etc. The other day she was playing in the other room & I was sitting on the couch. A few minutes later she came crawling to where I was in a hurry. She pulled herself up so she was standing in front of me & stuck her cute little arm out & started doing the sign for milk. I knew there was something she wanted. I picked her up thinking that was what she wanted. But then she started doing it again after I picked her up & I realized she needed her diaper changed. I asked her "Do you need your diaper changed?" & she smiled at me. I love that she knows how to do this sign because she can "communicate" with us better now. & she's happier because of it. I know she doesn't exactly get that this sign means milk only.. but it's a start & I am so happy with her! She is so smart! & I've never felt more proud in my life! Seriously!

Elsie LOVES books. She loves when I read to her. & she loves looking at books by herself. I am so excited! I haven't been the best at reading to her.. but for the last couple weeks I have been reading to her at least once a day. I want her to love reading. & I think the best way to encourage that is to read to her A LOT & show her that mommy & daddy like to read too. & she definitely sees momma reading all the time. (She doesn't let mommy get anything done because she wants me on her level. If I'm on the ground she is totally content & happy. So I just read...)

Elsie is such a sweetie. Every time I look at her.. I literally melt. She is SO beautiful. She is SO smart. She is SO trusting. She is the best thing in the world. I love being Elsie's mommy. I love that she only wants her mama (& daddy.. but she is definitely a mama's girl). She loves me & needs me & that's okay with me! (no doubt!) Last night Elsie & I were playing hide & seek. & she loved it! She loves when her mommy plays games with her. She laughs super hard & crawls into my lap & lays her head on my arm or leg & pats me with her sweet chubby baby hand. & smiles at me. I absolutely love it! I am going to miss this. So I'm trying to make time slow down.. so far it's not working ):

OH! Elsie took her first step Thursday evening. She was holding onto the edge of the coffee table.. turned around, let go of the edge, balanced herself & decided that she was going to take a step. She moved her leg & foot put it down & fell face first as soon as her foot hit the ground again. Then she looked up at me, in her crawling position, as if to say "well that didn't go as planned" & I clapped & said "good job Elsie!!" & she clapped her hands too. It was all so fast I almost feel like I imagined it all. haha She is getting super close!

Elsie has another cold. I hate sickness season. Seriously! I don't like when Elsie is sick. I feel guilty like I'm slacking as a mother.. & I feel bad because she is so sweet & innocent & shouldn't feel so miserable-- She doesn't deserve it! & lastly because she is super needy which makes for hard days! But it's nothing I cannot handle. I just hope it's not Whooping cough.. it's a little soon to tell. I'm praying she doesn't. I would hate myself if she did.
(Daddy babysitting at it's finest ;) haha!)

It is official.. I am baby hungry. I think it's because my baby isn't such a baby anymore ): She is taking steps. & is well on her way to walking any day now. When we hold her hand she can walk around. & the other day Dee came home late & I was like "Elsie daddy is home!" & She raised her eyebrows & opened her mouth wide & when daddy came into the room we were in she started walking toward him. It was such a sweet moment. She only got as far as two steps then fell & decided to finish getting to daddy by crawling. But just because I'm baby hungry doesn't mean there is another baby coming in the near future so don't think that..

Yesterday we took Elsie to the ears, throat, & nose doctor to see if Elsie needed to get tubes in her ears.. & I am happy to say that her ear infections have finally started to heal up after 2 months of having them. She still has a lot of fluid draining from the right ear but other than that the doctor said her ears looked perfect! I am one happy mama. I think because we started taking Elsie to the Chiropractor, after thoroughly researching this method of course, it has helped her ears immensely. She sleeps better on the days that we take her to the chiropractor. & it has helped them to drain. Nothing. & I mean nothing helped these ear infections go away until we started taking her to the chiropractor. She took probably 4 different antibiotics to "fight" the infection with no avail. (one of course being Amoxicilion which we thought she was allergic to... but ended up being a yeast infection because every antibiotic.. except one.. caused sore bums) I tried a liquid garlic solution for her ears.. that didn't really help. & then we got the idea of taking her to the chiropractor. Then we started noticing that her ears were draining.
I just hope after all the fluid drains she will start sleeping good again. I wouldn't even mind if she slept 5 hours straight every night. I'm not asking for much.. Just 5 hours straight every night. (:

Well I was pretty sure Elsie was going to be walking by Christmas.. but that didn't happen. Not that I am complaining. I want her to stop growing up so fast! I think it's safe to say that she will probably be walking by the end of next month though. She has taken steps & shown interest in walking.. she just is not quite there yet. No rush! I just thought since she has technically been pulling herself up to stand since she was about 7/7.5 months old she would be walking by the end of December.

Yesterday was Elsie's first Christmas. It was so cute! This whole Christmas season she has been super excited about Christmas trees. It has been so sweet. She is so sweet. I loved this Christmas. Elsie made it the best yet. Even though she was only interested in unwrapping gifts for 2 seconds it was so cute! She mostly liked the boxes & the wrapping paper AFTER it was off the gift,, & mommy's gifts. Go figure right? haha. I cannot believe Elsie is 10 months today! That means she has 2 more months until her first birthday! ): I really means this when I say it.. I want her to stop growing up. I want her to be a baby forever!

Elsie's First Christmas!

As I've stated many times in previous blog posts.. I love holidays! & Christmas is no exception. I love Christmas! I love getting the decorations out after Thanksgiving dinner, & decorating every inch of my home.. except that doesn't really happen because I only have a few decorations. But that is something I look forward to doing in the future when we aren't dirt poor students. Anyway.. I love listening to Christmas music & watching a Christmas movie every day until Christmas is over. I love the feeling that comes when it's the Christmas season! I love the traditions.. gift giving.. the desserts.. well.. I love EVERYTHING about Christmas to put it simply. & This Christmas seasons has got to be one of the best. Why you ask? Because of a cute little chubby baby girl named Elsie. She may not remember ANYTHING about her first Christmas or even care about anything that is going on.. But I will remember & even though she has no clue what is going on.. she has shown excitement about some things.
For instance. She loves the Christmas tree. Any chance she gets she kneels on one knee with the other leg propped up in a squat-like stance. & her eyes twinkle with innocents & wonder as she points up at it. I absolutely love it! It makes me realize how much this season is so much better with children! I love watching Dee pick her up & point at the lights as each color blinks & he tells her what each color is called. "b-b-b-blue Elsie. r-r-r-red Elsie. g-g-g-green Elsie" & she proceeds to point them out after him. All the while with raised eyebrows in complete awe. Oh & I love pointing out each ornament to her. SHE LOVES IT! She smiles at me & points & looks at me with raised eyebrows for conformation & shared excitement.
Another example.. She loves wrapping paper. haha Try wrapping a gift with a baby who is mobile around. It's a very hard task. haha Oh the list goes on.

I have tried to do things this season to make it a special one. Not really for Elsie.. but for me I guess since she won't remember a thing. I just want to make sure I start making traditions now so when the time comes where Elsie will remember things she will be looking forward to certain things.
Here is what we have been up to this season:

After our Thanksgiving dinner at my in-laws we went to a movie.. Me, Dee, & Elsie. (I wouldn't recommend taking an active 9 month old to a movie.. even if it is a cartoon) & after the movie we put up our tree & decorated it.
Elsie met Santa at our ward Christmas party!
We had a gingerbread house making "contest" (it wasn't really a contest.. we just decorated gingerbread houses. haha). with my Aunt Susan, my cousins Lindsey, Spencer, Alex & his wife Ashlan,  my sister Megan, my brother-in-law Justin, & my niece/nephew Harper & Ben.
We watched many Christmas movies.. I think Elsie's favorites were "White Christmas" & "The Little Tangerine Bear" (they were on Netflix) She wasn't very fond of the other ones we watched.
I finished Elsie's stocking. Man I love my little family!!
I made caramels & fudge like I have for the past 2 years.
We had a "Christmas" dinner at my Aunt Stephanie's on Sunday December 21 & did an White Elephant gift exchange. We got this cute decoration:
I read A Christmas Carol. I love books!
For our family home evening closest to Christmas, we watched Elf & we took Elsie to see the lights at the temple. (:
We went & looked at lights around a neighborhood on December 23.

Christmas Eve I made potato soup (kind of a tradition my family did growing up), we read the Christmas story in the Bible, watched Home Alone, & read a Christmas book: "The Night Before Christmas"
This morning we ate German pancakes, then we each opened one gift & after that we went over to my in-laws house around 1 & had Christmas dinner for lunch. When we got home around 5:30 Elsie & I took a 2 hour nap.. then we finished opening our gifts & headed over to Ihop for a late dinner. It has been a great day! We are so blessed!

The whole Santa thing.. I'm undecided on. Maybe I keep over thinking it or maybe I'm just crazy.. or both. Anyway I don't want to lie to my kids.. but I don't want to take away the spirit of Christmas. You know what I mean? What do you & your family do? Also if I do Santa I don't want to do it half.. well you know.. I mean obviously if one of my future kids asked me if Santa was real or not.. I would tell them the truth. I don't want to prolong it. But I also want to explain to them that "I believe" so they don't think mama & daddy are liars. I want to do Santa gifts in different wrapping paper than the wrapping paper our family uses.. that is of course if we do the Santa thing.. but Dee thinks that's stupid. He said his family just used the same wrapping.. So I guess what I am getting at is I want some opinions & I want to know what you & your family do about Santa? I guess I just want everything to be perfect for my little family. & at least we have a year.. maybe 2.. to decide what we want to do! Thanks in advance!

 Merry Christmas everyone!
That's all for now!
